Home Begins with Life | Part I
When planning a new home, most people begin by gathering images and styles they love, imagining what their future home might look like. Beyond those beautiful images, we would first like to hear about your everyday life. Who shares your home? How does each person use the space? Which familiar routines make you feel comfortable and are worth keeping? What daily inconveniences do you hope the design can resolve?
Before the design process begins, we spend time exploring these small details of daily life. As the picture becomes clearer, we can translate your hopes for home into a spatial plan that responds more closely to the way you live.
The First Few Minutes at Home: Discovering Needs Within Everyday Actions
When you walk through the door, do you put down your bag and keys first, or change your shoes? Where do you usually set down heavy grocery bags? When you and your partner leave at the same time, does the entryway feel too cramped for both of you?
These small actions, repeated every day, offer valuable clues for planning a home.
Beyond calculating how many pairs of shoes a cabinet can hold, we consider whether there is a natural place to set down what you are carrying, whether you can sit comfortably to change your shoes, and whether the route to the kitchen feels effortless when your hands are full of groceries.
Starting with these first few minutes at home, choices about storage, circulation, and materials begin to connect with the way you actually live.

Beyond the Object: Understanding the Life You Imagine
When speaking with a designer, it is natural to begin with specific requests. Often, though, what we want is more than the object itself; it is the everyday experience we imagine it making possible.
If you are putting together a renovation wish list, try taking each request one step further into everyday life:
“I would like a kitchen island.”
What do you imagine doing there? Is it a counter where you brew coffee on a quiet morning and have a quick breakfast, or a place where someone sits across from you, peeling garlic and chatting while you cook?
“I would like an open-plan space.”
Do you want to look up from cooking and see your family or pets, or do you simply enjoy the sense of openness that comes with uninterrupted views? When two people share one large space, are there moments when each still needs somewhere quiet to be alone?
Understanding the reasons behind these wishes helps us consider which layout and relationships between spaces will truly suit your life.
In Part II, we will explore how these everyday clues become thoughtful spatial arrangements, allowing a home to gradually take a shape that feels right for you.
